Understanding planning and development for community-led housing video

On 20 April 2018, Nicola Thomas (Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust), Liz Hobden (Head of Planning, Brighton & Hove City Council), Ian Coomber (Absolute Town Planning) and Anthony Probert (BioRegional) gave a workshop on Understanding planning and development for community-led housing.

They went over planning and development processes and policy, including how to create a brief and the steps for designing and potentially constructing community-led housing projects.

Info from the talk

As mentioned during the workshop, you can find the current Brighton & Hove City Council Asset Register here. See information about councils Community Asset Transfer (CAT) policy here.

You can also find the B&H City Council’s Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SCHLAA) here. Please bear in mind this is for information only, not an indication that a site is definitely available.

Nicola has also produced a list of current available sites in the city, which includes commercial opportunities and any council land that has some possibility of being available for community-led housing groups. This list is sent out to the active Community-led housing groups that are ready for sites investigation (i.e. have drafts of their business case and an outline financial plan ready). Please get in touch with your group’s Enabler for more information about getting on the active groups list.
